Belize Tours from Belize City
Ruins & Rainforest (The Easy Way). Short on time but big on adventure? This combo is the perfect solution. Altun Ha is the closest Mayan city to Belize City, meaning less time in the van and more time exploring. After walking the ancient plazas where the famous "Jade Head" was discovered, you’ll head to the jungle canopy to fly through the trees on a high-speed zipline adventure.
We travel just 30 miles north of the city to Altun Ha ("Rockstone Water"). This site is famous for the discovery of the Jade Head of the Sun God (Kinich Ahau)—the largest jade object ever found in the Maya world. The temples here are built around spacious, manicured plazas, making for an easy and relaxing walk compared to the steep hills of other sites.
After absorbing the history, we dial up the adrenaline. We drive to the zipline outpost where you will be outfitted with a helmet and harness. After a safety briefing, you’ll climb onto the platforms and zip from tree to tree. It’s a thrilling bird’s-eye view of the Belizean rainforest, and you might even spot howler monkeys watching you from the branches!
Less Driving, More Fun. Unlike the tours to western Belize which require 2 hours of driving each way, Altun Ha is only about 45 minutes from the port. This makes it the ideal choice for families with younger children or anyone who wants a full Belize experience without spending the whole day on a bus.

1. Can you climb the temples at Altun Ha?
Yes! You are allowed to climb the main Temple of the Masonry Altar. It offers a great view of the surrounding jungle and the ancient water reservoir.
2. Is the zipline scary?
It is thrilling but very safe. You are double-clipped to steel cables at all times. The guides do all the braking for you, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
3. Is there a weight limit for ziplining?
Yes. The maximum waist size is typically 44 inches, and the weight limit is usually around 265-275 lbs depending on the specific harness. If you are close to this limit, please let us know so we can check availability.
4. Is lunch included?
Since this is a shorter 5-hour tour, a full sit-down lunch is not typically included in the base price, but we can stop at a local restaurant if you wish. Most guests prefer to get back to the ship for a late lunch.
