Overview

Even on a short stay in our beautiful country, it is a must-see. Xunantunich is the epitome of time travel, a national treasure that fills its visitors with a sense of wonder. Even more appealing would be to saddle up a horse and ride into the shadow of this Mayan temple. You'll meet your guide at the departure site for an orientation and safety briefing. While riding our well-trained horses, you will follow the winding path along the Mopan River that runs through the village of San Jose Succotz along well-maintained trails. It is amazing how green and lush everything is. Visitors might see a group of women doing laundry in the river while their children swim nearby.

Many local vendors sell souvenirs, hammocks, and blankets near the River where you can board the hand-cranked ferry that has taken thousands to and from the tranquility of this Maya Temple. The journey to Xunantunich begins on the other side of the river after you dismount your horse.

There are many opportunities for amazing selfies and group photos at Xunantunich. From the castle, you can see for miles. The wide-open spaces have served as a lovely backdrop for proposals and weddings. It has also been used in films and telenovelas. Temples are surrounded by lush rainforest, whose trees may bloom vibrant red, yellow, orange, or pink depending on the season. For a few hours, bring along a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, along with an open heart to experience simplicity.
