Xunantunich, Cave Tubing And Zipling

There will be a lot going on today, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes. We will begin the tour with a road trip to Xunantunich (stone woman) in air-conditioned transport. Visitors to the Xunantunich Mayan ruins feel a sense of time travel.

There is nothing like it in all of Belize, and it is definitely worth a visit. Several vendors sell souvenirs, hammocks, and blankets at the entrance to the hand-cranked ferry that has transported many thousands to and from this ancient Maya temple.

The panoramic views of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala from atop ‘El Castillo’ are stupendous! Come with an open heart to experience simplicity and visiting another world for a few hours before heading off to Jaguar Paw for a cave tubing tour and zip-lining.

When you’ve arrived at the outpost, you will meet your tour guides who will issue inflatable tubes, headlamps, and lifevests. Following a basic orientation and safety briefing, the hike involves crossing through the cave branch river knee-deep to start your cave tubing adventure.

Once at the entrance of the cave system, it’s time for your ancient Maya underworld cave tubing adventure. You’ll see intricate crystalline formations that line the cave with a majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites that add to the serene richness and grandiose of Xibalba as it’s known. After exiting the Belize cave tubing, you’ll emerge into the sunlight and free float down the cave Branch river, ushered by the gentle current and little rapids, to the harmony of birds and natural wildlife which routes back to where the tour started.

There’s still more though as you’ll drop off your tubes and you will be taken to start the zipline course. Equipment will be the area where our expert guides will help outfit you with the required equipment. You'll then make your way over to the first platform, where a safety briefing will cover braking techniques, balancing, and cable safety.

READY! SET! GO! Push off from the wooden platform and zip along the aerial cable at canopy level where a guide will be waiting for you at the next platform. A couple of platforms into your Indiana Jones adventure, you’ll see the “hammock bridge” hanging almost 120 feet above the forest floor. Take in the tangled heart of Belize’s spellbinding and lush primeval forest, as the wide glade of trees falls away to reveal an infinite blue sky. After this, the lines get faster and longer.

This thrilling experience will add memorable photos to your album and is a must-do when visiting Belize. There’s a total of 7 lines and the whole adventure lasts about 50 minutes.

Cave Tubing Note: It’s best to use comfortable shoes and clothing that will air dry quickly if you don’t want to bring along a change of clothing. If you opt to bring a change of clothes, bathroom facilities and showers are provided onsite but it’s going to be a quick change as time doesn’t permit the leisure of a long shower.

All you need to do is rinse and go! Rags and soap are not included. Guides may also give you the option of deciding whether you’ll want to zip first and then cool off by doing the tubing last.
